THE CONTEMPORARY ISSUES DISCUSSION GROUP
(The Wired Word), Corner Conference Room, 9:30 AM
The shootings at a Colorado missionary center and a Colorado church last Sunday sparked more extensive debate among members of The Wired Word Advisory Team than almost any other story we have covered. The two incidents, and the fact that the murderous assailant was shot by a security guard inside the church, raise issues of how far the church should go in being open and welcoming, what sort of security, if any, we should put in place in our houses of worship, how to balance our desire to take the gospel to every person with the need to provide protection to those already in the fold, and how to live as people of faith in a dangerous world.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING WAS HELD DECEMBER 16.
We adopted a 2008 budget of $480,400 and elected 6 new council members. We welcome to our Congregation Council by election; Dusty Gordon, Vera King, T.J. Luschen, John Page, Michael Taylor, and Molly Thoreson. Our alternate representatives are Allison Hodde and Linda Auther. They will be installed on January 6 at either service they attend. Thanks to the retiring council members for their service: Archie Carver, President; Elizabeth Hurd, Secretary; Tom Eddlemon, Treasurer; Allison Hodde, Youth; Marty Kaufman, Promotions; and Kevin Seale, Outreach.
