CONGRATULATIONS to Jesse and Maureen Riggs on the birth of a new grandson, Luke Austin Riggs.
SEPTEMBER WAS NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH. With tornadoes in our recent past and flash flooding occurring now, Lutheran Services in TN and Lutheran Disaster Response is encouraging us to be a Ready Church by doing the following: 1) Be informed 2) Make a plan 3) Put together a Kit. A Kit includes items that you and your household (including pets) would need for at least 72 hours. It takes all of us working together to be a Ready Church.
THE OUTREACH COMMITTEE will have a Ready Church poster in the Gernert Room. Please sign the poster if you have made an emergency plan with your family and put a Kit together. We want to be a Ready Church.
SMALL GROUP MINISTRY LEADERSHIP TRAINING has begun on Monday nights, next meeting is on October 12th at 7:00 pm. If you are interested in learning about leading small groups, please put your name on the sign-up sheet or contact Danny or Christy Biles at
or 352-0837 for more information.
E-MAIL PRAYER CHAIN "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone...” 1 Timothy 2:1. We are starting a new prayer chain. If you would like to receive prayer requests and updates via e-mail, send a message to Christy Biles,
and she will add your name to the list.
OUR ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL PICNIC at Rau-Wood gathers at 3:00 with a short Vespers service at 3:30 pm. Dinner begins at 4:30. Barbecue and chicken will be provided. Please bring side dishes or desserts and a ball glove. There will be plenty of fun for adults and children. We will have pumpkin painting, face painting and a hayride! We hope you can join us for a fabulous fall afternoon. Directions are available outside the Gernert Room.
CONFIRMATION CLASS - A first meeting of students in the 7th grade or higher (with their parents) is scheduled for October 11 during the Sunday School hour in the church Library (First Floor). We’ll be using the Here We Stand materials from Augsburg-Fortress. Parents can help us determine a time which is best for all to meet. We look forward to another fun year of learning together.
OCTOBER 17TH - Potential overnight to coincide with parents night out. Youth would help with parents night out then go to a haunted house. This depends on enough youth interest as well as obtaining a male chaperone.
REFORMATION SUNDAY is October 25 and we hope you will wear red for this festival day. Holy Communion will be celebrated at both the 8:15 and 10:30 am worship services. A special treat is in store for the congregation in the afternoon. A group from Norway will be presenting a free concert in our church at 2 pm. They are touring the USA visiting Sons of Norway groups. A Sons of Norway Group meets here at First Lutheran Church usually on the third Sunday afternoon.
150th ANNIVERSARY COOK BOOKS AVAILABLE
If you did not get your cookbook at the Anniversary Celebration on September 13, here is your opportunity. It is a fine book filled with delectable dishes which you will want to prepare. Also the books are great for gifts. Check them out after worship Sunday and at the church picnic. They are only $10.
150TH ANNIVERSARY SHIRTS
Our YOUTH designed the shirts and came up with the slogan. These shirts will be available for $5 after worship and at the picnic. Help us show off our 150 years of ministry in the Nashville Area. You’ll see a lot of them at the picnic.
DINNER GROUPS TO FORM Dinner Groups are a great way to get to know other people in the congregation. Each group is composed of 8 people. Some are couples and others a singles. They meet in homes or at a restaurant for a meal. Usually in a home the host provides the main dish while the others bring veggies, salads, desserts, drinks, or bread. The group rotates hosting the event among the members of the Dinner Group. The first meeting is a covered dish meal on November 8th . We have a sign-up sheet on the Wall. Watch for this time of “getting to know one another” opportunity. Our Evangelism Team is the coordinator.
THE ALL TN LUTHERAN YOUTH GATHERING (Clothed with CHRIST... a new kind of fashion Colossians 3:12-17) will take place Saturday Nov 21-Sunday Nov 22 in Crossville TN. Youth in grades 6-12 may attend and a fun time should be had by all. We would leave Saturday morning from church and travel by van to Crossville TN for the gathering and return the following day at around 2pm. This is a great way for our youth to grow in Christ together. During the free time Neelie will be hosting activities including games and youth happy hour (snack time). Please contact Neelie Crooke at
for information and to obtain and submit registration forms. Packets are on the sign-up wall also.
