CONTEMPORARY ISSUES SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS - Our adult class has begun in the corner conference room at 9:30 am. If you like to discuss current issues and what Scripture says about these issues, come participate in this class. Each week a different issue is dealt with through The Wired Word Guide. The discussion is lively and insightful for all. See Linda Auther (
) for more information.
THE FLOOD: We continue to pray for all those affected by the devastation of the flood waters. So many of our friends and neighbors, as well as our members, lost many special items and possessions. Much has been lost in our community. One resource in First Lutheran Church is a group of Stephen Ministers who are trained to help when loses have occurred.
SOUNDS BASEBALL Faith Game Night coming on Sunday, August 29th. Please sign up if you want to go.
BUDGET?!?! YUCK! Don’t you just hate that word? Does it make you want to face a firing squad instead doing a budget? Is there too much month left at the end of the money? 70 % of American’s live paycheck to paycheck regardless of income. First Lutheran Church will be holding Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University 13 week class to teach you how to get control over your money and tell your money what to do. We want to help you to stop struggling to make ends meet and change your family’s future. There will be a free preview class on Wednesday, August 18th at 6:30 pm for a sneak peak at what’s to come. Classes begin on Wednesday, September 7th at 6:30 pm; cost will be only $50 per family for members.

OUR FIRST LUTHERAN FAMILY would like to thank a special non-member, Mrs. Gay Spain. Gay has contributed her time and talents to help maintain an important piece of our Chapel communion services. The original cloth had been a part of our services for many, many years and had completely worn through in places; however the crocheted cross emblem was in good shape. Gay has one of the only old hemstitching machines in the entire state (the original cloth was hemstitched) and was able to reproduce the original look. We were also able to apply the original cross to the new cloth. Gay graciously donated her services for this task, and I am listing below her address so that if anyone cares to send a "thank you" to her personally, you have it. Mrs. Gay Spain, 2609 Meador Rd., Greenbrier, TN 37073-4916

PRAYER CHAIN - For years First Lutheran has utilized the telephone to get word around about those in need of prayer. Last year we took the step into fast mass communication by starting an email Prayer Chain. With the touch of the SEND button, all those on the email prayer chain list instantly received an email with a request for prayer. Somehow we lost our good old telephone prayer chain. Here is the good news: Along with the email prayer chain, the telephone chain is back. Christy Biles
sends the emails and will make one call to Joan Cullum (phone 356-0505) and share the same prayer request for phone distribution. So if you do not have a computer, you can still be informed of request and pray. Call Joan to get on the telephone prayer chain list. Thanks Joan for rekindling this ministry arm.
WE PROVIDE A NURSERY EACH SUNDAY FROM 8:00 AM – NOON. Children who have not reached their 5th birthday are invited to enjoy the nursery with our nursery attendants Ms. Megan, Ms. Frances, and other volunteers each Sunday. Please fill out a name tag each week for your child.
FREE PARKING for Sunday morning worship and Sunday School is available at the corner of McGavock Street and 8th avenue next to the Credit Union building.
OUR THANKS to Pastor David Thoreson for leading our worship while Pastor Dan is on vacation. Pastor Dan will back on Sunday, August 1st.
COME LIVE LIFE!
